Dear Mr. Cherry,
I would like to comment on your review of Weathered that appeared in the
Plain Dealer on Sunday, November 9, 2001.
It is apparent that you do not know anything about Creed's background.
They went through quite a struggle to get where they are today.
Furthermore, on the band's official web site (http://www.creed.com/), it
is CLEARLY STATED that Creed is NOT a Christian band. Scott Stapp was
raised in an extremely religious environment, so naturally he includes
many spiritual references in his lyrics.
I thought the reference to Afghanistan was extremely cutting and cruel.
That was completely uncalled for. You have every right not to like them,
but to compare them with the Taliban regime and Osama Bin Laden was
unnecessary. How dare you place a band who never did one thing to you on
the same level as those...not even HUMANS.
Also, I take Journalism class at my high school and your article, to put
it as nicely as possible, was not good. You could have done a much better
job as far as including maybe some good things about the album as well.
Like how they included a choir on Don't Stop Dancing, or the Native
American chants in Who's Got My Back. And like I said before, you could
have done some more research on the band's background.
Creed has done so much for me. Two years ago I had a real struggle with
depression, and their music helped me get through it. If it weren't for
them, I don't even know if I would be alive today. Their music allowed me
to see life's bigger picture, and for that I am grateful.
I will always be a Creed fan, and your review will not change that. I
hope in the future you will be less insulting towards the bands you
review, and will do research before you write your articles.
I am forwarding a copy of this letter to the section editor, Laura
DeMarco, as well as the official Creed Discussion List.
I anticipate your reply.
Sincerely,
Gina Kovach, age 16
