Throughout their career, Creed have repeatedly refuted claims that they're a Christian rock band. Still, frontman Scott Stapp could teach us all a thing or two about turning the other cheek.
After a bitter public feud with Limp Bizkit — whose frontman, Fred Durst, called Stapp an "egomaniac" and a "f---in' punk" onstage last year — Creed are seriously thinking about taking Durst protégés Puddle of Mudd on the road in January.
"I'm not going to hold a grudge against a band because they have a person that's involved with what they're doing that has personal insecurities and jealousies," Stapp said recently. "Puddle of Mudd's a great rock band with a great album. I would love to have the challenge of them opening for us every night because I know they'd push us, and that'd be a great thing to have."
Creed's North American tour behind their new album, Weathered (see "Scott Stapp Called It: Creed's Weathered Makes Big Debut At #1"), will begin in Lakeland, Florida, on January 15 and continue through March, though exact dates have yet to be determined. Sevendust, which opened for Creed on some of their Human Clay dates, will play at least one leg of the tour.
"Our fans love Sevendust, so that's kind of a no-brainer," Stapp said. "We're great friends with those guys. We love touring with them so much, and their new record is the most phenomenal thing they've ever done."
Other groups Creed expressed interest in playing with include Nickelback, Drowning Pool, Tantric, Incubus and Days of the New.
"We're hoping to put together a really good, solid package for the fans to see," Stapp said. "In January we're really trying to see if we can work out the details and maybe have a Tantric/Puddle of Mudd/Creed bill. I think that would be a show that a lot of people would want to see."
Creed will take a short break from their tour in February to perform at the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. "We're gonna take like a week off to enjoy the whole experience and bring our families and friends down and try to have fun," Stapp said.
