No, your extreme example shows that you're flailing, and badly.  You CANNOT remove personal preference from the equation.  Without personal preference, there IS no equation.  I PREFER Beethoven to Mozart, so does that mean Mozart sucks?

my point is that it just might be possible that the quality of music has nothing to do with personal preference.  my extreme example illustrates it better than anything else I've said.  if anything, i've gotten closer to presenting it as clearly as possible
