I haven't seen them on MTV, 'cause I don't watch it very often, although MTV2 plays them for sure. I've seen their video on Viva2 few times, plus my radio is playing them very often lately. All (sound and the video) look like something from 70's. The music sounds so old too, it's not that much innovative either, although it's kind of fun to listen to them. Seems like a sincere music. They're probably getting bigger, because there are still many people who love music of 60's, 70's and The Strokes remind them of it so much.Kind of refreshing on the music scene there days...But I'm not knocked out by their music (maybe yet, who knows)

Hmmmm, I thought this might be of interest to some here, as The Strokes has
recently been mentioned by Marc and Agie, if not others. It comes from an
Alarm discussion list.
And speaking of bands to check out, I HIGHLY recommend The Alarm. They're
not new, by any means (this year is their 20th anniversary, even though
they're no longer together), but the music is simply awesome, and VERY
meaningful. As has been said by several fans I know, "Mike Peters (lead
singer) never wrote the same song twice." Well worth a listen, and more
info can be found at www.thealarm.com <http://www.thealarm.com> , or even BETTER, at

Shawn
NP - Is This It - The Strokes
Do you know anything about this band, Shawn? Simmo
also mentioned them recently, but I didn't take him
SERIOUSLY until I saw their video and realized it was
the same one that I thought MTV had found in the old
AMERICAN BANDSTAND video-vault because of their
throw-back (aka RETRO unwashed look of the late 60's
or early/mid 70's) appearance and sound, not to
mention the ancient (aka "vintage") sound equipment
they were using in it. It really looks like a tv
appearance of some band from circa '78 who's work has
somehow been re-discovered by the newest "hip" MTV
generation.
The name "THE STROKES" in some ways reminds me of all
the "THE" bands arounds in the 70's & 80's - THE
Knack, THE Clash, THE WHO, THE Ramones, THE Cars, even
THE ALARM!!!!! So when I saw the video I really did
think it was some old footage of an equally old band
and haven't a clue as to who they really are or where
they came from. Any help from you or anyone here
would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Lyn
