recently been mentioned by Marc and Agie, if not others. It comes from an
Alarm discussion list.
And speaking of bands to check out, I HIGHLY recommend The Alarm. They're
not new, by any means (this year is their 20th anniversary, even though
they're no longer together), but the music is simply awesome, and VERY
meaningful. As has been said by several fans I know, "Mike Peters (lead
singer) never wrote the same song twice." Well worth a listen, and more
info can be found at www.thealarm.com, or even BETTER, at
www.debbir.com/gathering.htm, or www.debbir.com/dedication.htm.

NP - Is This It - The Strokes
Do you know anything about this band, Shawn? Simmo
also mentioned them recently, but I didn't take him
SERIOUSLY until I saw their video and realized it was
the same one that I thought MTV had found in the old
AMERICAN BANDSTAND video-vault because of their
throw-back (aka RETRO unwashed look of the late 60's
or early/mid 70's) appearance and sound, not to
mention the ancient (aka "vintage") sound equipment
they were using in it. It really looks like a tv
appearance of some band from circa '78 who's work has
somehow been re-discovered by the newest "hip" MTV
generation.
The name "THE STROKES" in some ways reminds me of all
the "THE" bands arounds in the 70's & 80's - THE
Knack, THE Clash, THE WHO, THE Ramones, THE Cars, even
THE ALARM!!!!! So when I saw the video I really did
think it was some old footage of an equally old band
and haven't a clue as to who they really are or where
they came from. Any help from you or anyone here
would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Lyn
