Though, I realize that the money is in the mainstream listeners. So the
concentration will most likely be toward satisfying this market of
listeners.

Jim, you make being mainstream sound like some horrible crime against music.  Regardless of whether the new single goes "mainstream" or not, Creed is going to make money.  They are a huge band, with a huge fan base.  They don't need to make mainstream music.  Being mainstream isn't a bad thing.  I remember that for a while "mainstream" music was considered to be bands like PJ, STP, Live, Bush, Green Day, Metallica. But now on the same station, they play less rock music and more pop, hip-hop, r&b, dance music, things of that nature.  If a band can make a song that hooks mainstream audiences, then maybe we can get more rock music on the radio.  Now if a band completely changes their sound and goes against everything they stand for, for the sake of money, then they have no right to call themselves artists.  But judging by the first single, I don't see Creed heading down that path.  I don't hear too much of a difference in their sound, but it's enough of a difference to show they are evolving as musicians and songwriters.  Without evolution, the sound would become stale,  then nobody would want it, and I doubt they would want to play it.  And seriously, who wants another depressing album this year? I think Staind (whom I love btw) covered that for us already.
