Have you checked out anything recently?  My brother was going to go to
the Marines (until he turned into a drug addict), and they told him that if
he scored over 50 that they would give him a whole crap load of money.  I
forget how much, but I know it was alot.  It was enough to make me think of
joining the military, and I hate the military! My dad is a military man and
raised me thus (in other words, hes a complete asshole, loud, dominating,
doesn't give a damn about what I think or feel, and it's ALWAYS his way or the
highway.  It didnt help much either that he grew up in Queens,Ny and is a big
scary italian guy...)

That depends on your definition of "hooked up majorly".  In all actuality,
high ASVAB scores don't really do much more than give you more options as
far as HOW Uncle Sam will screw you in the military.  That sounds really
cynical, so let me clarify.  The higher you score on the ASVAB battery, the
more of the "212 ways you can be an 'Army of One'" become available to you.
My own scores allowed me to have the pick of ANY job in the Army (or any
of the branches), but my color-blindness limited me to NON-combat and
NON-combat support jobs, which in the end led to some of my disillusionment.

And in my experience, military service is neither helped nor hindered by
race, sex, nationality, etc.  I found the Army to be the most
non-discriminatory employer I've had, where positions and promotions truly
were filled based on merit alone.  There are of course exceptions, but
generally I found this to be true.
