Actually, I can remember that bonuses were getting smaller even when I was still in.  Of course the G.I. Bill now is DOUBLE what it was then.  YAY rising cost of education!

the bonuses aren't so huge unless their totally hurting for the rank and rate combo.  The re-enlistment bonuses have seriously declined over the last..... eh... 7 years or so.  but if you're the right rate and rank, they'll write a pretty big check to keep you.  It's not as big as it's been historically, though.
