I think I am probably the biggest Metallica fan here (or at least the most VOCAL one).  There is presently no set date for a return to the studio, as James is in rehab, and all plans are on hold.  And the most recent info on a new bassist has them completing THIS CD, and the corresponding tour, without a permanent replacement, and finding one after the tour.
