An interesting side note:

I'm a big fan of the alarm and they have *far* more religious and spiritual references in their songs.  In the 20 years that i've been listening to them, not once have i heard them described as christian.

To get into technicalities...
1.  Christian bands, by the usual definition, have an agenda... said agenda being to either convert through music, or to strengthen the beliefs of those who already hold them.
2.  According to the FAQ, the members of Creed say that they al   believe in God, but that they don't necessarily consider themselves Christians.
3.  Therefore, Creed is not a Christian band, and the band members do not profess to be Christians.  =)

Other thoughts along the same lines...
I guess the reason so many people consider Creed to be a Christian band are because a lot of the lyrics have spiritual/religious references.  However, I'm sure there are a lot of other bands who occasionally discuss religious topics without being labeled as a Christian band... I'm just to tired to search them out right now.  It's common for poets/writers/musicians to write of topics that are intriguing to them, or topics that they're searching for the answers on.  (Probably why there are so many love songs out there... such a confusing emotion to many).  If the writer of the lyrics was searching for what his beliefs were at the time the songs on MOP were written, it makes perfect sense that there's a spiritual tone to most of the songs... because he was searching for the answers within himself.
I don't mean for this to be an argument, just making some points to consider... plus I don't like labeling, especially mislabeling.  (For example, I don't like it when people assume I'm an atheist just because I like to debate religion, or think I'm being argumentative when in reality I just like debating different topics... <s>)
