*Cough* NKOTB *cough*
Their success (prior to going rap and
trying to burn down a hotel room) opened the door to Boy Bands in the '90's...
N'Sync, 98 Degrees, BackStreet Boys, and all those others that I am growing to
not be able to stand anymore... it showed that an all-male group, without
them playing instruments during the shows, but instead putting on a
well-choreographed dance act... but honestly, they've been there for a long long
time...
The Pretenders. Barbershop
Quartets. All male bands that showed how well several voices all singing
at once in harmony could sell. A Boy Band (or a solo teenage female
singer) is really nothing new... unfortunately, they're all falling into the
stereotype that society has drawn up for them the past several years, and
playing the part very well.
Boy Band = Pretty boys... must occupy
at LEAST 3 teen mag. covers... wanted by at least 80% of the under-16 teenage
female population
Britney/Christina types = physically
perfect (usually involving some sort of cosmetic surgery) skinny girls that have
to be lusted for by a minimum 65% of the male population... first ranking on the
list is pedophiles and men in prison for 10-to-20.
I guess it's one of those "If it
sells................"

Spears-Christina Aguilera syndrome
what I mean by that, is
do you remember how when the Backstreet Boys came
out, like fifty other
boy bands instantly sprang up. When Brittney came
along, Suddenly
Christina, Mandy and Jessica come trotting along. Like, it's
a big
copy cat thing ya know? It's sickening...
