> I've  got a cool quote on this: "Conquer thyself. Till thou hast done
> this, thou art  but a slave for it is almost as well to be subjected
> to another's appetite, as to  thine own." (Robert Burton/ 17th
> century) What do you say to this? I agree  completely.
<<I like the quote. It is pretty meaningful. That is if the quote is
"saying"- "Learn to control yourself and not be under anothers control.">>
hmm.. not really according to my definition. I think it says: don't let your "appetite" (meaning sexual desire or any other kind of desire - which could end up getting you somewhere you don't really want to be) control you because it's just as if somebody else's desires controlled you (sort of the slavery-image) and that doesn't appeal to anybody, does it?
<<Except that I feel a God, so their seems to be more than the forces of
nature at work. There seems to be an intelligence out there. But, was
the intelligence first an "evolutionary" thing?>>
hmm.. that is a very, very popular topic to be talked about - I personally believe that there was a God in the beginning "and through him all things were made" (to quote the Christian creed).. because one way or the other (of course you can disagree with me here) you will have to face the question: WHY? Why did "stuff happen" (to quote you)? - of course you can say that it was a sheer coincidence, but I do not believe so.. and no scientific theory (like for example the theory of evolution) can answer that question, at least it seems that way
<<I know that the "world exists" to those without the common 5 senses.
There still is light and sound. But nothing to understand it with other
than skin sensations. (Heat, touch, vibration). Just like we cannot say
that there isn't some greater being. We just don't have the extra sense
to detect one. That is to prove it.>>
I get your point here and I must say it couldn't have been expressed better otherwise!
<<Since there are things in my life that pronounce the existence of a God>>
And what things are those (if you don't mind me asking)?
I hope this wasn't too long.  - Jim
I sure hope this wasn't too long - Ewa (really, wasn't it or was it?)
PS I'm still "working" on my response to you, Jackson.. time is all I need
