Subject: Re: Jim Morrison .. Scott Stapp
Joe, I think you misread the point of Jim's post.....first, I'm quite
certain that it did not imply that everyone from Tallahassee is a Satanist,
he was merely pointing out a well known fact that because Stapp was so
influenced by Jim Morrison, that he even moved to Tallahassee because Jim
had once lived there....
I know that. The comment was strictly facetious.
Scott's thinking was that if he lived there maybe he'd be able to follow in
Jim's footsteps as a rock musician....eventually ending up in L.A. with fame
and fortune. As for the bands chemical policy....Scott may have well been
headed into that very life of sex/drugs and rock-n-roll....he's never denied
his past drug use...in fact, he's stated that the very line from My Own
Prison, the lyrics "should have been dead on a Sunday morning, banging my
head..." were directly inspired by the fact that he damn near overdosed on
mushroom juice and thought sure he should have been dead when he woke up on
Sunday morning. &nbs! p;He has also told of times when they were doing the
club circuit early on in their career, where he would be rip-roaring drunk
during the shows. But....his saving grace seems to have come from his
ex-wife Hillaree, who told him if they were to get together, she would not
tolerate the "rockstar" life style. He and the band decided not to ever do
a show drunk or stoned.
The operative part of this is that it is, in fact, part of his past - not
his present.
At any rate....I don't think Jim posted this to slander anyone, merely to
pass along an article he'd read....and frankly, I find your attitude of
asking him to refrain from posting an oposing view to your own to just be
wrong.
>
Not an opposing view to my own... I don't care what his opinion is to be
perfectly frank. But to post a link to an article that is written with the
kind of spin that I previously described goes beyond just stating an
opinion... it goes to the overall credibility of the argument.
Those of us who do not see your religious connotations to all the lyrics are
not asking you to stop, therefore, I'd appreciate it if you'd please not ask
anyone with opposing viewpoints to stop posting either.
>
I'm not asking any such thing.... I'm just asking that he not use
manipulative means in forging his argument. The quotes in that article are
completely out of context and are presented in a manner that is
manipulative. Period.
