I don't believe I said anything about realizing the differences due to familiarity, though. Perhaps, I unknowingly implied it? I don't know how familiar I can even say I am with Pearl Jam.  I have never listened to any of their albums in their entirety. I'm not even sure how many songs I have listened to by them in their entirety.  I noticed the harmony in "MOP" the first time I listened, which is what reeled me in.

What do you define as being familiar with a band?
