I don't believe I said anything about realizing the differences due to familiarity, though. Perhaps, I unknowingly implied it? I don't know how familiar I can even say I am with Pearl Jam. I have never listened to any of their albums in their entirety. I'm not even sure how many songs I have listened to by them in their entirety. I noticed the harmony in "MOP" the first time I listened, which is what reeled me in.

it's people that aren't familiar with either one that hear the similarities more than

they hear the differences. at least the people I've talked to -- myself included.

What do you define as being familiar with a band?
